For the first time ever, the University of Hawaii at Manoa made a spot on the Peace Corps' Top Colleges list.
The UH placed 24th among the Peace Corps’ top 25 medium-sized schools for 2013. The list recognizes colleges and universities that produce the most Peace Corps volunteers. Last year, UH Manoa ranked 44th.
Twenty-two undergraduate UH Manoa alumni are currently serving overseas, according to the press release. The school has produced 553 Peace Corps volunteers total.
“The multicultural environment of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa exposed me to diverse people and cultures all at one place,” said Peggy Kang, a UH Manoa alumna currently serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho. “Also, all the knowledge and experience gained through the latest and practical teaching methods and curriculum […] set a strong foundation for my primary job as an education volunteer.”
