PRP Talks Up Cayetano Donations of Yesteryear — Again

From our Inside Honolulu blog:

The Pacific Resource Partnership continues to dip into the same well in its attacks on Honolulu mayoral candidate Ben Cayetano.

The group, made up of the local carpenters union and contractors, continues to go after Cayetano for illegal campaign contributions he received more than a decade ago.

While Cayetano was never found guilty of any wrongdoing, PRP continues to push the narrative that these donations were part of a pay-to-play culture that existed during his reign as governor.

Here are the latest ads. One is a television spot. The other is for the radio.

Cayetano has pushed back against the attacks, and now so are some of his supporters.

His former campaign co-chair, Walter Heen, resigned to start an independent expenditure committee to compete with the amount of PRP is spending.

And just last week a local man formed a non-candidate committee called Defend Ben. According to the Star-Advertiser, the committee has already started airing radio ads. (Subscription required.)
