9:27 p.m. — Ed Case Concedes the Race

After the second results showed Ed Case 16 percentage points behind his opponent Mazie Hirono, Case conceded the race.
“That road I talked about earlier tonight, that road just ended,” Case told his supporters.
He thanked them for their help and said that he hoped Hirono would represent the Democratic Party well.
“I’m so sorry we couldn’t deliver a win tonight,” he said. “This isn’t the end. This isn’t the end of our dreams together. This isn’t the end…”
Moments before the second printout was released, Case said he was looking forward to the results from the Oahu voters, who are his strongest base.
But he also said he did not know if he could make up the deficit.
He ended his speech on a positive note.
“I’m going to start partying because I don’t have to do anything anymore!” he said to a round of laughter.
Everyone joined hands as Case sang Hawaii Ponoi with his supporters.
