HART Adds Seats to Honolulu Rail Cars

Anti-rail candidate Ben Cayetano could sweep the mayor’s race this Saturday. But that possibility hasn’t held up work on the train this week.

Inside Honolulu reports:

Honolulu’s rail authority announced Thursday it plans to add more seats to its train cars. Each two-car train will increase from 76 to 96 seats.

“The public has told us that they would like more seats on the trains and we’velistened,” HART CEO Dan Grabauskas said in a press release. “The increased seating will be designed to enhance theriding experience and to increase passenger comfort.”

Grabauskas said the cost for the additional seats will be made up by savings from recent budget cuts.
